What are the water standards?

Whether you buy your water in plastic bottles, whatever the brand, or drink it directly from your tap, water is subject to very strict standards that control the quality of consumption for everyone. To give you a clearer picture of all the water potability standards imposed on this natural source, we've put together a summary for you!

To consume pure, natural water, with all the properties of beneficial spring water spring water, use your Struct'Water! No matter what type of water you put in it, you're drinking totally healthy water.

Water potability standards

For water to be safe to drink, it must meet very precise and strict potability criteria laid down by the Ministry of Health and the Higher Council for Public Hygiene.

They may vary according to the legislation in force and whether the water is for human consumption or industrial use.

Today, we can count no fewer than 63 water potability standards, which are generally grouped into the following 5 main parameters

Physico-chemical parameters

Physico-chemical parameters correspond to the water characteristics we are familiar with, such as pH, temperature, conductivity and hardness. They delimit the maximum quantities that must not be exceeded for certain components (ions, chlorides, potassium and sulfate).

Examples include the following:

  • The pH of the water should be between 6.5 and 9,
  • Potassium content must be less than 12 mg/l,
  • Sulfate content must be less than 250 mg/l,
  • Etc.

Organoleptic parameters

This second group of parameters concerns the color, taste and smell of the water. It must be pleasant to drink, clear in appearance, and odorless! Linked to individual comfort when drinking, these parameters have no direct health value.

Microbiological parameters

These water standards, known as biological parameters, ensure that the water is free from pathogenic germs such as viruses, bacteria and parasites. All these germs have serious consequences for humans and animals alike, causing illness and even epidemics.

Parameters of undesirable substances

Related to undesirable substances, these parameters concern those we know as nitrates, nitrites and pesticides. To ensure the right level, here are the water standards required for this group of parameters:

  • Nitrates must not exceed 50 mg/l,
  • Fluoride must be less than 1.5 mg/l.

Toxic substance parameters

This last group of water standards parameters, linked to toxic substances, includes micropollutants such as arsenic, cyanide, chromium, nickel, selenium and certain types of hydrocarbons. All these elements are subject to particularly stringent standards because of their toxicity!

Their content is tolerated to the order of a millionth of a gram.

If you don't want to consume standardized water that may contain toxic or undesirable substances, or any other unconventional parameters in natural, healthy drinking water, get your Struc'Water! Our positive wave generator restores all its original properties to your water, whatever it may be.
