Has your water tasted strange for a few days? Is your fountain’s flow weakening for no apparent reason? These signs do not lie and indicate that it is high time to change your water fountain filter (if you wish to continue enjoying pure and healthy water). Don’t panic, you will see that it is not rocket science!
With this short guide, we reveal, bit by bit, all the essential information to carry out the operation successfully.
⚙️ Key steps at a glance:
- Shut off the water supply by closing the feed valve;
- Drain the system to evacuate residual water;
- Remove the old filter by turning it counter-clockwise;
- Install the new filter by clipping or screwing it in, depending on the model;
- Purge the circuit by letting the water run for 2-3 minutes before use.
💡 Good to know — most domestic water fountains operate with three types of standard filters:
- The PP filter, which traps sediment;
- The CTO filter (activated carbon), which removes chlorine and bad tastes;
- The RO filter (reverse osmosis), which ensures deep purification.
Regardless of your fountain model, this guide applies to you.
Why change a water fountain filter? 💧
A water fountain filter must be replaced regularly, as it loses effectiveness over time and, consequently, no longer guarantees optimal filtration.
A worn-out filter no longer protects your water!
Over the months, water filters accumulate impurities and residues. As their retention capacity gradually decreases, certain substances eventually pass through the mesh.
If you thought you were constantly drinking filtered water, be aware that it may no longer be as healthy as you believed.
Quality water requires regular maintenance!
A new filter ensures water is cleared of undesirable elements (e.g., chlorine, sediment, contaminants). Neutral taste, absence of odor, elimination of heavy metals… The health benefits are immediate.
💡 At Struct’Water, we recommend noting the date of each replacement so you are never caught off guard.
How to change a water fountain filter? 🔧
Changing a water fountain filter is a simple operation that requires no special technical skills and can be completed in just a few minutes.
1/3 – Prepare for the intervention safely
Before any handling, shut off the water supply. It goes without saying, but it is better to avoid any oversights!
At the same time, have a basin ready to collect residual water and a cloth to wipe up any splashes.
2/3 – Proceed with the filter replacement
Locate the filter(s) to be replaced (usually accessible under or behind the fountain).
Next, unscrew the old filter by a quarter turn, then insert the new one following the indicated direction.
Finally, check that the seals are properly in place to avoid any leaks.
3/3 – Restart and check
Once the filter is installed, reopen the water supply and let it run for two to three minutes. Why? Simply because this purge eliminates manufacturing residues as well as air present in the circuit. The water should quickly regain its usual clarity.
How often should water fountain filters be replaced? ⏱️
The replacement frequency varies depending on the type of filter: allow 6 to 8 months for a PP filter, 8 to 10 months for a CTO filter, and 10 to 12 months for an RO filter.
The PP filter for trapping sediment
The first line of defense for your system, the PP filter captures the coarsest particles such as rust, scale, or sand. By changing it regularly, you extend the lifespan of the other filters located downstream.
The CTO filter for removing chlorine and bad tastes
Thanks to its activated carbon, it neutralizes chlorine and removes unpleasant odors. A CTO filter at the end of its life often results in water with an altered taste.
The RO filter for deep purification
The reverse osmosis membrane is the heart of the system. It retains heavy metals and the majority of dissolved solids. Annual replacement of the RO filter therefore guarantees optimal filtration.
💡 At Struct’Water, we offer a 3-filter Pack containing these three types of filters. A practical solution for planning your replacements with peace of mind!
